Ode to My Glazed Donut

Ode to My Glazed Donut

You come from Liliha Bakery
right in the heart of town.
You rest beside other delectable treats,
yet are the only one I want around.
Waiting to be chosen,
your dough is golden brown.
Painted with sugary-glazed sweetness
with a soft and delicate inside
makes you absolutely perfect.
As I take my first bite into you,
my eyes close in delight
and I drift off into heaven.
The sweet, white glaze leaves an
unforgettable aftertaste.
As the fresh dough is gracefully
Chewed upon,
You quickly disappear
And I wish I had bought
More than one of you.

  1. Yum! I think that I may need to make a trip to the store after reading that. I could taste the savory sweetness with each line.

  3. My mouth is watering after reading your poem. "Painted with sugary glaze" is so vivid. Now those will be the words I think when I see glazed donuts.

  4. Delicious words. I believe that buying just one makes the donut extra special.

  5. I try to limit the buying, which limits the eating, thank goodness. Your poem does my heart good, great donut searcher that I am. I can see you like these "the only one I want around".

  7. You really capture that decadent feeling of enjoying a sweet pleasure! I so want a donut and I love how you ended, "wish I had bought more than one of you." So true!

  8. As I age, I find I cannot indulge in a lot of foods, and I love to eat--always have! Thanks goodness there isn't a bakery nearby!! But the next time I indulge (It may be soon, so I can write about it!!!!), I will slow down and embellish more. Odes are great for foods!!

  9. What a deeelicious poem! We can read it the next time we have a craving for a donut, and we don't have to add the pounds to our hips. This is a sweet neat treat!

  10. Bravo! I'm so glad I read your slice. My fourth graders are right in the middle of writing odes. I am going to share this one with them tomorrow. I hope you don't mind. I loved it. Thanks for posting!
